Rail
Carlisle & Hadrian's Wall Country is only around three-and-a-half hours from London by train. Fast comfortable Virgin trains from London (Euston) reach Carlisle in about three-and-a-half hours on their way to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Trains from Edinburgh take less than two hours. The City's Citadel Station is the final station for three of the country's scenic railways.
Virgin Trains operate high-speed services into Carlisle from London, Manchester, Glasgow and the west coast. Cross Country operates high-speed services between Newcastle and Scotland, south west England, Birmingham, Sheffield and Leeds.
Rail connections from Carlisle and Newcastle run directly into Hadrian's Wall Country. Travel from Leeds along the dramatic Settle-Carlisle Railway to Carlisle, and connect to the Hadrian's Wall Country Line. First TransPennine Express services connect Newcastle to Liverpool, Manchester, West Yorkshire and York.

Road
National Express coaches run from all over the UK to Carlisle and Newcastle. By car, there are excellent motorway and trunk road links leading to Hadrian's Wall Country including the M6, M1, A1, A7, A68, A69 and A74.
Access from the western side of the country is along the M6 from the south and A74 (M) from Glasgow to Carlisle. Access from the eastern side of the country is along the A1(M) to Newcastle. The A69 between Carlisle and Newcastle runs parallel to Hadrian's Wall (approximately 2-5 miles south) and is the main strategic access route.
