Family Fun
From battle re-enactments in the Castle or along Hadrian’s Wall and the summer programme of kids activities in Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery to all sorts of farmyard fun at Walby Farm Park, enjoying a day out in Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall Country can be great fun and educational.
There's no need to go into battle on an empty stomach, the best local produce and Fairtrade sourced goods can be sampled throughout Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall Country - visit Lanercost en-route to the Wall to see what Emperor Hadrian would have enjoyed.
The city also offers some great indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, ranging from Laserquest and ten-pin bowling, to crazy golf, tennis and a splash park in Biitts Park, and a central shopping area that is really family friendly.
Other places great for a family day out include: Talkin Tarn, Carlisle-Settle Railway, Carlisle Racecourse, Lanercost and New Mills Trout Farm.
The Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail and Coast to Coast Cycle path both run right through Carlisle, and while no one is suggesting that the family do the full route, short sections are easy to sample, and lead to some amazing landscapes such as the Solway Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Eden Valley.
