A new frontier in Fair Trade
The Hadrian's Wall Fairtrade campaign began in October 2008 with the aim of linking all of the Fairtrade towns within the Hadrian's Wall corridor and of becoming the first World Heritage Site and National Trail to achieve Fairtrade zone status.
The Hadrian's Wall zone crosses three counties, Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear, and encompasses numerous towns and villages and two cities, many of which already have, or are close to achieving, Fairtrade status. This zone is a 20 mile wide corridor that follows the line of Hadrian's Wall from coast to coast.
There are already many businesses and other organisations in this corridor that provide Fairtrade products for their customers or staff and our aim is to raise the profile of Fairtrade even further and encourage more people to become involved.
We have produced a website to promote the campaign where you can find a map that links to businesses in the Hadrian’s Wall corridor that support Fairtrade. We also have a map for individual supporters and a forum where people can discuss issues surrounding fair trade. If you would like to support this project please add your name to one of our maps or join in a discussion on the forum.
To get Fairtrade status, we need to let as many people know about our project as we can. If you have a blog, write a newsletter, use social networking sites or just have friends, relatives and colleagues you can contact, you can make a big impact to our campaign just by talking about it, even better if you can send us a copy or a link so we can add it to our bid.
