Roman ReEnactors on the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail

Roman soldiers will be camping by the Solway Firth this summer. Re-enactment group The Antonine Guard will be taking part in a Living History event at Silloth on the Hadrian's Wall Trail south of Bowness on Solway on Saturday and Sunday 10th/11th July 2010.

The two-day event will feature military re-enactors from several eras camping on Silloth Green and re-creating life in days gone by. Visitors can talk to characters in authentic period dress, try on their clothes, taste their food, test their weapons and so on. There will be special activities for children and families. Sunday will include mock battles and displays in the arena.

Periods represented will include Roman, Viking, English Civil War and the American Civil War. The Antonine Guard are particularly welcome as Silloth was the site of a Roman signalling station and is on the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail. The group represents the VI Legion which helped build Hadrian's Wall and later constructed the Antonine Wall in Scotland.  (visit theantonineguard.org.uk )
