Hadrian's Wall Country is only around three-and-a-half hours from London by train. National Express high-speed trains arrive into Newcastle from London, York, Edinburgh and other east coast stations. Virgin Trains operates high-speed services into Carlisle from London, Manchester, Glasgow and the west coast. Cross Country operates high-speed services between Newcastle and Scotland, south west England, Birmingham, Sheffield and Leeds.

Inter-Regional Trans-Pennine services provide frequent services to Newcastle from Liverpool, Manchester, West Yorkshire and York. Or, travel from Leeds along the dramatic Settle-Carlisle line through the Yorkshire Dales National Park to Carlisle, and connect to trains along the Tyne Valley line.

Rail connections from Newcastle and Carlisle run directly into Hadrian's Wall Country (see Getting Around opposite). First TransPennine Express services connect Newcastle to Liverpool, Manchester, West Yorkshire and York. Or travel from Leeds along the dramatic Settle-Carlisle Railway to Carlisle, and connect to the Hadrian's Wall Country Line.
